Caison Wang (b. 1991, Guangdong) graduated from Hubei Institute of Fine Arts with a B.F.A. in 2015
and received her M.F.A. from Savannah College of Art and Design in 2019.
Wang’s
painting practice integrates 3D
modeling technology, traditional oil painting, and electronic screen art,
resulting in an innovative collision of these three elements. After sculpting
characters and scenes in 3D space, she combines these virtual elements with
traditional oil painting on physical canvases, creating a new form of landscape
and character imagery. These characters and scenes retain the texture of
traditional art while showcasing the abstract colors of electronic screens and
the explosive feeling of flat anime. Wang presents her work in exhibitions in a
serialized manner, depicting the development of characters in the story.
Her
painting practice also involves the concept of "image turns," which
explores the evolution of art history systems from past paintings and
photographic images to digital images, network images, and even post-network
images and concepts of artificial intelligence. In this ever-renewing world,
images continue to operate in an open-source manner. Wang’s work, in this
context, is not only an exploration of traditional art forms but also a
profound reflection and response to contemporary image culture and
technological development.
